Meet Erin! She’s one of the friendly faces you might see if you stop in at Eltham Neighbourhood House.

Erin is an Eltham local who joined the Living & Learning Nillumbik team in 2019.  She coordinates the courses, programs and special events that happen at Eltham.

Here she chats about Neighbourhood House Week, and what she loves about being part of the Eltham Neighbourhood House community.

What do you love about Neighbourhood House Week?

I love Neighbourhood House Week because it’s a chance for people to try something new, and it brings people in who perhaps haven't been to Eltham Neighbourhood House before.

This year we’re running a free Kombucha introduction, as well as a flower arranging workshop.

What do you love about Eltham Neighbourhood House?

I love the gardens. It's a very peaceful environment to work in.  We have beautiful buildings here too.  The historic cottage and other spaces – like the clay maker studio – I think are really unique in the community.

And, of course, I love that it is always brimming with activity. There’s a liveliness and creativity that comes from our artistic community.

Do you have a favourite place here?

Our oak tree – it's so lovely to see each morning as I walk in, and it always gives me a sense of the seasons. There aren’t really a lot of oak trees in Eltham, so I think it's really special.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I feel very lucky to live and work in this community.  You get to know people – the staff, volunteers, participants – and it's nice just to walk in and say hello. It has that genuine, neighbourly feel about it.

Neighbourhood House Week runs from 8 -14 May 2023
