This course is designed for anyone who would like to obtain basic skills and knowledge about freelance photography and exploring the option of starting their own business.

Looking for a career in photography or its related industries?

Then this course might be ideal for you

Over eight weeks this course, by Living & Learning in conjunction with photographer Alwyn Hanson, will cover all you need to know about creating a pathway into employment (or self-employment) in photography.

The course content includes

-     Professional equipment

-     Professional standard settings

-     Publishing including social media

-     Marketing and website creation

-     Professional editing incorporating Adobe Lightroom

-     Copyright rules and ethics

-     Introduction to photojournalism

-     Portrait photography (including child photography)

-     Event Photography (including weddings)

The course includes ample notes and support from industry professionals and will include projects and “homework” to help you achieve a high standard.

Basic knowledge of photography will be an advantage in the course.

Dates: Wednesdays 31 July - 18 September (8 sessions)

Time: 7pm - 9pm

Location: Eltham Living & Learning, 739 Main Rd, Eltham 3095

Fees

Government-subsidised funded - $65 enrolment fee.

You are eligible for a government subsidised fee if you are a permanent resident and/or Australian or New Zealand citizen who is not enrolled in mainstream secondary school. Please note we will need to sight your Green Medicare card to confirm your eligibility.

Concession card holder - $35 enrolment fee.

This fee is available to people who hold any of the following:

  • Commonwealth Health Care Card
  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Veterans Gold Card.

Please note we will need to sight your card to confirm your eligibility. 

Full Fee or Third Party payment - $210 enrolment fee.

This fee is for participants who are either:

  • under 17 years of age
  • are not eligible for funded enrolment
  • receive funding from other sources (for example NDIS).
  • have participated in the same course in the same year.

Please note: if under 17 years of age and disengaged from school, participants will need to obtain an official Transition from School Form for us to sight.

About the Tutor

Alwyn has spent most of his life working in photography both as a working photographer and as a teacher. Over the last 20 years, he has helped thousands make their start in photography. He has written and organised classes for many companies and government departments including Victoria Police and Melbourne Fire Brigade. As well as photography he also teaches aspects a modern business needs such as digital and social marketing. Alwyn Hanson is the owner of Alwyns Photo School Melbourne.
