Description
This course is aimed at women who would like to learn how to complete basic maintenance and DIY tasks in the home delivered in a safe and welcoming environment.
Participants will be introduced to a range of tools and techniques, their purpose and how to use them safely to complete home maintenance tasks including plastering a hole in the wall, replacing tap washers, using an electric drill, hanging a picture, preparing surfaces, filling and caulking, building a planter box etc. It is designed to increase women’s confidence and independence to complete home maintenance tasks and open up the possibility of further study and/or work.
About the tutor
This course will be run by experienced tradesmen and builders at the Diamond Creek Men's Shed.
Course dates, hours and location
Dates: Monday 15 April - 24 June (no session on 10 June for Public holiday)
Times: 9:30am-12:30pm
Location: Diamond Creek Men's Shed, 53 Challenger St, Diamond Creek
What to expect
At the end of the course learners will be able to:
- Understand basic safety practices and procedures around the use of tools
- Be able to recognise tools and describe their purpose
- Demonstrate basic techniques using a range of tools
- Regard themselves as having abilities that may make them employable
Fees
Fully funded - $70 enrolment fee
Concession card holders - $30 enrolment fee
Fee-paying - $340
Government-subsidised fee
If you are a permanent Resident and/or Australian Citizen/New Zealand Citizen and not enrolled in mainstream secondary school you are eligible for a government subsidised fee, please note you will need to provide a copy of your Medicare card for a government funded enrolment.
Concession fee
This fee is available to:
- Commonwealth Health Care Card holders, and their dependant children and dependant spouses
- Pensioner Concession Card holders, and their dependant children and dependant spouses
- Veteran's Gold Card holders (but not their dependants).
If you are eligible, you will also need to present your concession card at one of our centres prior to the start of the course in order to be eligible for a concession fee.
For non-eligible individuals, the full fee will apply.
