Volunteering at Living & Learning Nillumbik

At Living & Learning Nillumbik, volunteering is more than just giving back. It’s about finding connection, belonging and friendships that last.
When Rita moved to Australia a few years ago, she was looking for a way to connect with people and get to know her local community. Volunteering felt like the perfect opportunity to meet new people, build friendships, and gain valuable local experience.
“Volunteering with Living & Learning Nillumbik has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” Rita says. “It quickly made me feel part of the community.”
Beyond giving back, she explains, volunteering helped her grow personally and form meaningful connections with people along the way.
For volunteer Michaela, the most rewarding part of volunteering at Living & Learning Nillumbik is seeing connections flourish — not only her own, but those formed between others.
“I really enjoy the connections I’ve made with people,” she says. “It’s amazing to see, as a volunteer, how we’re able to facilitate other people meeting, and then they go on to forge their own friendships and meet up independently. That’s really satisfying.”
Volunteering at Living & Learning Nillumbik is open to everyone. Even a couple of hours a week can make a meaningful difference.
“You really have nothing to lose and so much to gain,” Rita says. “If you have the time, I’d encourage anyone to give it a go — I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.”
