This month our Carers Hub is hosting a new information session designed specifically to support Carers in planning and preparing for the future.

If you would like additional information about the session, or if you are not sure whether you are a carer, please reach out to the Living & Learning Nillumbik customer support team via 9433 3744 or info.livinglearning@nillumbik.vic.gov.au.

Preparing for your future - a session for carers and the people they care for

As a carer, have you wondered how to support the person you care for to plan for their future? Have you worried about how this may affect your role and your life? Although planning ahead can sometimes appear to be daunting, it is an important process, as it means that you can clarify what matters most to you and effectively communicate your wishes and decisions to those around you. By doing so, you ensure that your preferences are understood and respected, reducing the risk of your decisions being unintentionally overridden later in life.

The session will talk about four steps in planning for future:

  • Step One: Thinking about what you want your older age to be like.
  • Step Two: Talking to people you trust about what you want for your older age.
  • Step Three: Writing down what you want so that there is a record of your wishes and decisions.
  • Step Four: Formalising your arrangements in legal documents.

This information session will be delivered by Justice Connect, proudly supported by the Carers Hub and Merri Health Carer Gateway.

Carers are welcome to attend by themselves or bring those who they care for with them.

When:   Thursday 15 August, 11am - 12:30pm

Where:   Eltham War Memorial building

              907 Main Road Eltham

This information session is free.
