Japanese ink art for beginners (one-off)

Create traditional Japanese sumi-e ink paintings and calligraphy on washi paper. This class is for beginners.

Traditional Japanese calligraphy and sumi-e painting artists are able to paint expressive poetry and vivid scenes of nature using only the various tones of black sumi-e ink and brush techniques.

In this course, you will learn to make and use different sumi-e ink tones and brush techniques to create traditional Japanese ink paintings and calligraphy on washi paper made from the mulberry as well as learning about the history of Japanese calligraphy and sumi-e.

Gain knowledge of the history of Japanese characters, calligraphy and painting. Learn how to make ink and use materials, understand ink tone, basic brush strokes, rhythm and so much more. 

This activity is held at Eltham Living & Learning Hub and is open to people 18 years and older.
