Description

This one-day course will offer the full range of front of house aspects to working in a café/small restaurant environment with specific focus on barista training, and customer service.

Learners will gain hands on experience in the safe operation of a commercial coffee machine learning how to prepare and make a range of coffee types, know and observe safe practices in using an espresso machine and grinder, and have a basic understanding of how to shut down and clean the coffee-making equipment. Skills such as customer service and teamwork will be covered and reinforced through role plays and simulated work scenarios.
 
This course is aimed at providing people looking for a job in cafes or hospitality with some basic experience in the industry. On completion you will receive a Certificate of Participation.
 
Open to anyone over 15 years of age.

Location: Eltham Living & Learning Training site, 905-907 Main Rd, Eltham 3095 (opposite the Burger Lounge, next to Eltham Kindergarten)

Fee-paying - $95
Concession - $86

Concession fee:

This fee is available to:

  • Commonwealth Health Care Card holders, and their dependant children and dependant spouses
  • Pensioner Concession Card holders, and their dependant children and dependant spouses
  • Veteran's Gold Card holders (but not their dependants). 

If you are eligible, you will also need to present your concession card at one of our centres prior to the start of the course in order to be eligible for a concession fee.  

For non-eligible individuals, the full fee will apply.

What to bring

  • a drink bottle
  • lunch
  • a snack/morning tea if desired
  • notepad and pen.
There is a small fridge in the classroom where you can store your lunch for the day.

 

Prerequisites

Participants must be aged over 15 years to attend this course.  

 

Learning Pathways

Completion of this course can lead to further education pathways in Hospitality at local TAFE.
