Description

Welcome to the Digital Skills for the Workplace: Introduction to Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel course. This course will help you to develop your knowledge, skills, and confidence when using digital technology in everyday workplace situations.

You will have opportunities throughout the course to develop your skills and share your knowledge. You will be supported, encouraged, and challenged through a range of online and digital activities throughout the course. The first half of this course is dedicated to learning about Microsoft Word and the second half focuses more on Microsoft Excel. There are review activities in sessions 5 and 10.

Some of the topics you will cover in the course include:

• identifying key information required in a job application and learn about resumes

• studying and adapting good samples of cover letters and resumes

• using a Microsoft Word template to assist

• formatting, saving, and locating files

• learning to navigate documents using short cuts on the keyboard

• learning to create, modify, format, and tables

• looking at the basics of Microsoft Excel workbooks and spreadsheets

• creating your own simple workbooks and spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel for different scenarios 

• exploring self-calculating timesheets and invoices

• formatting cells in Microsoft Excel and learning basic formulas

• exploring Microsoft Excel templates and learning to organise, print and export spreadsheets.

About the Tutor

Siobhan is a skilled and adaptable digital trainer who has worked with the Be Connected program teaching +50 year olds digital skills for the last 5 years. She is well versed in helping people navigate their smart phones, tablets and laptops, using plain English and engaging exercises tailored to participants of all skill levels. Siobhan loves helping participants learn the skills required to become confident with their devices and sharing knowledge in a relaxed and enjoyable way. 

Siobhan has worked in the digital industry for over 15 years, developing websites, mobile apps and delivering training courses to front-line teams in Melbourne and London. Her professional work means that she understands technology at a level which makes her a natural trouble-shooter and understands the intricacies of misbehaving devices!  

Siobhan appreciates that participants are most invested when learning topics that assist them day to day and takes the time to understand participants learning objectives and adapting course material to that effect. 

Fees

Funded: $55 enrolment fee
Concession: $35 enrolment fee
Fee-paying: $180

Government-subsidised fee
If you are a permanent Resident and/or Australian Citizen/New Zealand Citizen and not enrolled in mainstream secondary school you are eligible for a government subsidised fee, please note you will need to provide a copy of your Medicare card for a government funded enrolment. 

Concession fee
This fee is available to:

  • Commonwealth Health Care Card holders, and their dependant children and dependant spouses
  • Pensioner Concession Card holders, and their dependant children and dependant spouses
  • Veteran's Gold Card holders (but not their dependants).
  • Please note: if under 17 years of age and disengaged from school, participants will need to obtain an official Transition from School Form for us to sight.

If you are eligible, you will also need to present your concession card at one of our centres prior to the start of the course in order to be eligible for a concession fee. 

For non-eligible individuals, the full fee will apply.
